BLOG POST 5 (w- 3D print ideas)

This next phase of my design process looks like a farmyard.

Pretty much all broken machinery lying around as I morph them into things that work. 🚜🫀

I started a new doc to chill that out and it ended up turning out about the same because I made so many iterations as I kept finding new things that would make more sense.

This is the new shape --
the blended grenade and heart (lamp)

I created a hole in the drop for the light socket/cord to come through to hang from the ceiling

Dowels are the planned method for tying the piece together.

I decided to use cylinders to cut the shape of the grenade ring back out of the piece.

I thought I might add back the handle when it comes to the 3D printing part.

Here are some other process photos.

This is what examples of slices of my piece look like before I will be putting them together. This is without the dowel holes as I wanted to see how many sheets I needed/wanted to use as I was not trying to spend $500 on materials.

I forgot to take a screenshot of only 3 of these being able to fit on the sheet (12x24)

It was then recommended that I use the inside shapes as the new outside. I laid that out just to test it and still... without extruding anything, it still won't work. I am worried about things (the curves in the details inside/out) getting squished making it any smaller. I also will need to recreate the hole for it.

I will need to recreate a new smaller object/shorter overall unless I can 3d print my other layers and keep it the same size as it is now, or closer to it.

I expected the layers to be able to fit into each other but with the way I extruded it, it is not possible anymore. I had concerns about this but did not fix them when I felt the concern. Bad choice.

I will be working tonight to fix this as I really don't want to carry this out any longer. I want it to be over.

3D PRINT IDEAS-
THIS WILL COMPLETELY DEPEND ON SIZE CONVERSATION

My first idea was to create some of my other layers from print.
It could add some interest as well as help fill in space and keep the entire shape...

I also thought that I could add the grenade handle back and do a cap on the top of the entire piece that would be the same colour as the rest.

or.... I could do inserts... this all will depend on what size my heart will be after conversation.
